Employee fired for texting in sick

How lazy do you have to be to not even call in sick but text instead? Apparently this guy was lazy enough.

Black Friday

Ah yes..the day all of the cashiers(of which I am one) dread..or at least thats what I'm told. Some of you may have heard horror stories about this dreaded day but I will say one thing. It's not as bad as it used to be. I say this with this being my first Black Friday so maybe I'm not that qualified to say that it isn't but this Black Friday was not bad at all. I timed it to dull down around 8:00 at the major chain I work at(that's right no telling unless you know me). Perhaps we have moved on from the days when a sale was a big deal. That being said while there was no running there was the audible noise of the Barbie jeeps being pulled off of the stack and the plastic wrap being ripped from the jeans display. Perhaps its because I live in a tiny town that it wasn't so busy but i only hope that maybe I'm right and the world has gained sanity in one thing at least.

Interesting..after my cometary on new media..the reason for the strike makes sense.

New media

As I sat in a blogging rut I wondered about things on the net and then after listing to a podcast it hit me. I was part, if only an insignificant part, of what has been called new media. New media is a term that has been created to describe most internet mediums. New media scares the old media to death in my opinion. Oprah has even recently created a youtube channel for herself. Now weather she is sincere or just trying to keep up is something I don't feel I can judge but one thing I think we can all say is music on the net scares the music industry except for the select few that understand that the internet is not ruining them like most believe. Even I will admit that I listen more to podcasts than watch TV. Its become that old media feels threatened by new media to much and tries to catch up and usually fails miserably. If only we could understand that different medias are for different audiences and none of them are truly threatened then maybe a few less headaches would happen in the media world.
